Through the exploration of the fairy-tale and the fantastic, Hester photographs the imagination of children, in collaboration with them. She is fascinated by children at play and inspired by the therapeutic possibilities of play for both adults and children. Her work explores the individual's search for self and identity, the loss of childhood innocence, and the child's vulnerability in today's society. Authorship comes into question, as the collaborative process blurs the boundaries between photographer and subject.
